VOD Encoding Workflows

MK/IO’s Video-on-Demand (VOD) encoding is a workflow that allows users to process video files into various formats and bitrates to ensure optimal playback quality and compatibility across different devices and networks.

MK/IO’s video processing workflow consists of Transforms and Jobs.

Transform: A transformation process that will run on the input asset supplied by a job. MK/IO supports single bitrate and multi-bitrate transforms that allow a user to transcode their video into H.264 or H.265 output content. The output content can range from SD to 4K resolutions based on the templated selected.

MK/IO only supports our encoding transformations. Other types of transformations will launch soon.

Jobs: A job contains an input asset, output asset location, and reference to a template. The template instructs the job what transform to run to generate the desired output. Many jobs can use the same template.

Encoding your VOD asset

  1. Create your first template by selecting Video Processing from the side-bar and navigating to the Transforms tab.
  2. Click Create transform and fill out the Transform name, Description, and select a Built-in preset.
  3. Once your template is created, navigate back to the Jobs page. Select Create Job. Fill in the required information for Job name, Description, Priority, and Template. Template should reference the template you just created.
  4. Next you must select the Input source. The Input source can be an Asset name and File Name of a blob storage account you have migrated in the Assets or an External URL. Ensure the External URL is accessible via the public internet.
  5. Select the Storage account and Asset name you want your output asset to live in. Click Submit
  6. You job will now be assigned to the Template that you configured it with. The job will progress through the Queued, Processing, and Finished states. The progress % will update as the encode progresses through the workflow. Once Finished, your asset will be available in the Assets page where you can create a Streaming Locator and start playback of your content.
